We did not have a lot of time to spend in South Boston when we visited a few days ago. Cheri had wanted to visit the area to attend a presentation on antique British samplers. I had time to walk down the main street and look in and at some windows. This sign wants you to imagine your business in this building: I could imagine it a bit better if the upper windows were more capable of keeping the weather outside. This was the busiest place along Main Street; even on a weekday morning it was bustling. This next shop was not nearly as busy as the barbershop: The color of this brick, even after all the years it has been weathering, amazed me: I love the reflection of the roofline of the building across the street in this window: The photography studio was not open, but it made for an interesting photograph itself: This one made me think of a kid smiling, minus a few teeth: If you get the feeling you are being watched . . . This storefront had many bottles displayed, and because of the angles you can get multiple reflections of the outside against the wares inside: In case you were wondering, it seems that this is "South" of the Boston in Massachusetts, as we didn't see any other Boston in this region. South Boston and the nearby Danville were centered in a large tobacco-growing region, which brought a lot of money to the area. For us, this means a lot of old architecture to see, so we plan to return!

The soil in this area is the red clay that would make excellent red bricks.
