WANDERING, NOT A WALK     (Mark)

A couple of weeks ago I took my favorite form of transport from our timeshare near Union Square to the Palace of the Legion of Honor, at the west end of San Francisco.

Here's a video of my driverless Waymo ride, on the way:
I didn't spend any time inside the Palace viewing the art and exhibits on this trip.  Cheri was with a friend at an antiques fair, and I was wandering for the day.

My wander is at quite a different pace than a walk, and much less direct of a route.

The Lincoln Park Golf Course surrounds the Legion of Honor:

I did not have a lot of chances to play golf when we lived in San Francisco, between 1986 and 1989, but Lincoln Park is the course I played the most.

I have been blessed to play a lot of amazing golf courses:  Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, The Olympic Club, The Old Course Saint Andrews.  The 17th tee of Lincoln Park, with the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance, is the most breathtaking view imaginable.

Several buildings in the City have living roofs.  This one is one of the first houses you see down the hill from the golf course:

This is the westernmost end of 20th Avenue.  I like the mix of architecture.

These caught my eye.  They were in a cutout of the sidewalk and you could see they had been tended to and watered.
This lemon tree was loaded with lemons, and the old truck was supporting one of the heavily laden limbs.  It appears it has been some time since this truck last moved.

Back in about 1987 Cheri and I lived in this apartment building for a year.  It is located at 20th Ave and Lake Street.
Cheri had a piece of furniture she wanted to move into the apartment, but it was too large to get up the stairs.  We had to sell it from the lobby.

(We moved three times in the 3 years we were in San Francisco!  You can guess whose idea that was.)

I looked online to try and find information about this company but all I could come up with was this:

I love the reflections and background objects visible in this photograph, especially the SF Giants Banner.

Unfortunately the shop is going out of business and was selling everything off inside.
I stopped in here and purchased some sweet treats, for purely philanthropic reasons of course:

Look at the detail in the upper crown molding and tin ceiling panels.

Typical SF street scene, Arguello Ave looking north from Clement Street:

I walked further up California Street to the California Market, where I purchased some more goodies, then took another driverless Waymo back to the timeshare.

Great but missed car week... Shame on you!
Nick, our son, is full time caddie at PB. His wife works for PB so now nick can play a lot on the courses!
Love you both

Not having to deal with the traffic of the Monterey Peninsula on Car Week; a definite plus!

A tremendous number of people now use electric bikes to commute in the city, interesting to see just how many are doing this. Each morning and evening you can see people dressed for the office wheeling along.

SF is the one of the few places I can imagine having a timeshare and being glad I bought it! Loved the pictures!

Yeah Helen, and this one is particularly great because it's really affordable! I think the building might originally have been rented to single ladies "back in the day," because there are nice little kitchens. It's 1-1/2 blocks from the top of Nob Hill, with no parking available, so you have to be willing to do LOTS of walking, but we enjoy that.

Eeeeee, you rode a Waymo!!!
I look and look at those driverless vehicles with fascination, and wonder would I dare?
Thank you so much for the short video!

Basically Waymo is 10X safer than having a driver get you somewhere in the city. And you can set what music and temperature you want the car to be when it arrives. I love it.
