Austin's Uncommon Objects shows up on aficionados' lists of the country's best place to shop for antiques, and it absolutely lives up to its name. I asked about the very well designed and executed paint-by-number paintings that I saw throughout the store; they said they believed most had come from one man's collection. This is Norman Rockwell's Rosie the Riveter. I wondered what inspired the creation of this nearly life-size painting: Although the store is apparently a collective of 24 dealers, I would have sworn that it was the collage of a single artist. Many displays are color-coordinated: even if the "color" is neutrals: Even the on-sale art in the bathroom is color-coordinated: (Note, too, the theme in this display!) A series of animals: This guy was huge: and the "animal" here wasn't the first thing you noticed: A couple of political-interest items: I haven't posted any quilts for a while. Here's one from the 1800's: This was made of silk, still very glowing and lustrous: This is actually some form of weaving, rather than a quilt: Bonus for reading to the end of this post: here is a Google Earth tour of the store! (Who knew that was possible?)
