Cheri had been on hold with the IRS for more than three hours, including four transfers - don’t ask - and I knew her Mini needed fuel. I grabbed my camera and car keys, and took a short drive. About four miles from our house is the intersection of two very busy streets. And there is a lake. The interesting thing is, this time of year so many lilies have grown you can only see a tiny bit of water; the rest is covered in vegetation. Everything you see here is part of the lake: The lily fronds are quite large. Some of the flower petals, and water from last night’s storm were on the leaves: A number of different plants are growing on the lake. Walking part of the way around I saw at least seven different varieties of flora. It was a beautiful evening, temperature in the high seventies, with a little breeze. Some of the flowers were white, some a delicate pink: Visually the scene is peaceful, but just behind you traffic is constantly rushing by. A young Hispanic couple was sitting looking at the lake. They only had a little English, and I have poquito Espanola, but we were able to exchange pleasantries and remark about how nice the evening was.
I then climbed back into Cheri’s little race car and come back home, stopping at the BP Station on the way.

I would definitely choose taking photographs of the lake over doing anything related to the IRS!

Lovely, Mark! Your wanderings continue to bring some grace to share. This description reminds me of the peaceful egrets in the marshes on the way home from Santa Cruz, ignoring the whizzing traffic on Highway 1.
