While in San Francisco for a too-short stay we were able to visit one of our favorite places in the City, The Box SF. The Box is an antiques emporium with an incredible selection of historical items, with everything for sale. If you are in the City you really should plan on visiting it, and set aside a chunk of time to do so. A playbill for the classic Beach Blanket Babylon, which was the world's longest-running musical revue (1974-2019): Cheri and I saw this in 1988 and then again in about 2001. The company that became Brantford Starch began in 1858. It processed corn products including high-fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, dextrose and starch. The factory could handle 200 bushels of corn a day. The fruit and vegetable label selection is one of the areas I spend lots of time looking through. I love the colorful art advertising the various companies that used to be placed on the crates. This one also might be a hit in Monterey this week: I could not find out much about the company, but the label is from the 1940's or 1950’s. As we love tangy foods these old spice and condiment jars give me all sorts of ideas for dinner:
I do have a question about the advertising of this product: If it really is effective, how pleasant is it really going to be? And one more vegetable box label: The Box has 103,000 more things to see. We only bought a few things we could fit in the suitcase to bring back home, and left a lot for the rest of you.
