Starting again on a mountain-top walk that Mark and I took while in San Francisco: At our vantage point for this photo, a house used to stand, but it had to be taken down after a 1997 mudslide created unsafe conditions. There was another Little Free Library to the right of the protective fencing: We walked around a curve in the road, with a driveway that ran up the hill from the inner portion, and were stunned to see this view, so peaceful: We were still in a city of more than 800,000 residents? Looking up, we saw this greenhouse, which I would definitely have been happy to have at my own home: We think the greenhouse was on the back side of the first house erected on this hill in 1927 . . . still owned by the son of the builder. These are people who likely thank voters daily for Proposition 13! A few residents that greeted us as we emerged from that sylvan neighborhood: This guy was providing Neighborhood Watch, but not for us: A few feet away was this house, such a difference: A peek through trees from the road we were traveling: and an unobstructed view, probably what the residents can seek from their back windows: I don't know who this was - possibly St. Francis of Assisi - but his statue added a peaceful presence: A little later we saw this church: This church, which was opened over 60 years ago, is an outreach from a church initiated in Japan, and has about 250 members. Their goal is to guide members to "live creative and artistic beautiful lives for their own happiness as well as for the happiness of those around them." Just around the corner we ran into a woman who was out maintaining her landscaping: and I found out where to get her Art Deco-inspired leggings (Amazon). I'm always paying attention to things on the sidewalk, and I saw a tiny puppy memorialized near the end of our walk: My mother always watched for flowers. I saw the orange: she would have seen the purple: I actually try not to pick up books anymore, since the North Carolina library is extraordinary, however . . . When we got back to the Little Free Library that was by our parking spot, I gave in and took this book, which was just different enough that it isn't one of the local lending options: I haven't started reading it yet, but it certainly looks interesting!
When we have found our "permanent" house, I'm going to set up one of my own Little Free Libraries.

I enjoyed this blog very much. We lived in SF for seven years. We did not take this walk. I wish we had.
