SILOAM 7-MILE SALE     (Mark)

Every year the Siloam area, about twenty miles from Winston-Salem, has a community yard sale.  It is called the Siloam 7-Mile Yard Sale, although it has spread to a larger area over time.

The most pertinent fact Cheri would want people to know is I spent considerably less time looking at stuff than she did but spent more money!  I spent $15, on golf balls, she spent $4 on stuff of considerably less import.

One advantage of doing this is the roads you are driving on.

While Cheri peruses the treasures I spend the time wandering around with my camera, which is just fine with me.

I do find pieces of history tend to catch my eye, and generally you do not have to go far to find some of these here in North Carolina.

Cheri was really eyeing this particular vehicle.  She has a love of little hot rods, and maybe she thinks this can be her next ride.

If you want a road side rest stop you can literally go back in time.  There are more modern options available though.

The soil here in the area is red clay, very fertile.

If you park something for any length of time you can get rooted in place!

Whenever I pull the RAM over to take pictures I have to make sure I am not taking too long as I do not want to return to the truck and find Cheri being held captive by the greenery!

Gorgeous countryside. Love the rustic, interesting cars and signs you captured. However, I will take convenience over the outhouse!

Teri,
Using the outhouse could be considered a plein air experience! I think about Tommy all the time, and the fun the Hardy Boy’s had running around the country with our cameras.

We have been getting a storm about two days a week, we did get one tornado watch upgraded to a warning two weeks ago. Phone alert going off at 3 AM woke me up but not Cheri. She must have a Very clear conscience!

Ingrid,
Coming from the dry Mediterranean climate of Monterey to the greenery of the Carolinas has been quite the experience! Drive along any road or freeway here and you are surrounded by vegetation.

Is that kudzu vine in the last picture by the truck? I was impressed with the extent of its growth when I was in Chattanooga last year. Nice photos, Mark, and laughed at your beginning salvo about the money spent.

I believe the vines are Kudzu, many different vines and Ivey types of greenery everywhere around the region. I do not know if I can convince Cheri the golf balls are more important than the plate and fabric she found….

Really enjoy your pictures and the lovely scenery.
Fr. Thomas died last week Which was a blessing as he was in much pain. Other than missing my pest friend all is going well.

Mikell,

Good to hear from you, I know Thomas can Rest In Peace, he was a good man. The scenery here is incredibly green, and so much history surrounding us, very interesting to explore the region.

That road screams out for your S2000 (or my Z4)

I had to laugh, Marlon, when looking at the dash on my Mini the other day. I hit sport mode, and the dash says "Let's Motor HARD"!

Her Mini Cooper is turbo charged, and in the sport mode is all wheel drive, pretty sporty!

Sure do envy the lush green woods, surrounded as we are by dryness. This was a particularly good batch of rusty vehicles!
