We still have a timeshare in San Francisco, so decided to spend Thanksgiving here. The plan had been to also visit friends and family in Monterey, but we realized that the three days we had scheduled was not enough, so that will have to be another trip. This has been a very low-key trip, confined mostly to long sight-seeing walks and eating at favorite restaurants. Our first morning we walked along Clement Avenue in the Richmond District, where we lived for two years while I was in San Francisco. This was a plantar along one of the many "parklets" where restaurants are now allowed to serve patrons. (I really miss my succulent gardens at home and office in Monterey.) We had a delicious breakfast at "Eat's." You might think that the gentleman in the background is the feature of this picture, but truthfully my focus was the straw, which is made of agave . . . a symbol of just how different California and North Carolina are. I spent a little time at The Spanish Table, a delicatessen and foodie nirvana: The outer edge of the plantar at this shop was made of decorated skateboards: I was impressed with the artistry surrounding this otherwise easy-to-miss bit of municipal directive: As always, we enjoyed our time perusing Green Apple Books, which opened in 1967, and takes you back at each visit. (On another walk, I told Mark that I could easily be an architectural historian. Here's a link to the history of Green Apple's building.) Just a couple of the delights I found inside . . . First a calendar which can be purchased at Green Apple or elsewhere: The line "Hey! No napping!" is the best part here. Cops will tell you that the guilty suspects are highly likely to nap in the interrogation room. Next, a throwback to the San Francisco Giants of 2010, a poster I found in a stairwell at the store: This poster has a lot of detail, but don't bother looking closer; I'm going to post a guide tomorrow.

How wonderful to be in SF! We lived in SF for seven and a half years after we were first married. Lovely place! We lived close to Golden Gate Park and rode our bikes there.

Hey Marian, I knew that you had lived in SF. I can see your point about raising children in the City. Pros and cons to living there, but being a child here wouldn't be one of the pros.
