We have friends that we are close enough to that we'll do breakfast together before having gotten "ready for the day."

One day friend Ross asked "Your hair gets up before you do, doesn't it?"  Artist Timna Tarr clearly has the same problem!

Here are a couple of detail shots:

These are more quilts from QuiltCon 2023, in Atlanta.

Veruschka Zarate, from Loma Linda, California, created this extraordinary Joan of Arc quilt:

Check out the number of pieces she used!

If you click here, you can see a short video of a quilt of her two boys and herself that Ms. Zarate made using the same technique.

I think that this quilt of Maya Angelou - which was about 10 to 12 feet square - was best seen from a further distance than this photograph was taken from.  What astounded me was how the artist was able to create a quilt like that while sewing at a distance of about two feet!  Clearly she trusted her preparation, rather than composing as she went.

(By the way, we attended the play Phenomenal Woman: Maya Angelou last week.  It is intended to head to Broadway, and has opened in Winston-Salem as its first stop, since Angelou was a professor at Wake Forest University at the end of her life.)

Clearly the artist of this quilt believes in just having fun!

And that allows me to pivot to some quilts from the kids exhibit:

I loved the contrast of the fox and trees against the background fabrics on this quilt:

So good to hear from you, Ingrid! Yes, that artist is amazing. She has a whole series of animals that she has done. The animals have also been printed onto fabric, which I am going to make into a purse. (I wish she'd done a T-shirt with the hair!)

I love the Joan of Arc. Fabulous!

My second favorite is the Fox with the moon.

Thank you.

Love,
Marian
