QuiltCon, ARCHITECTURE & COMMUNITIES   (Cheri)

I just spent the last two days at QuiltCon, the national show of the Modern Quilt Guild.

This was one of the top three most inspiring quilt shows that I have attended.  Yesteerday I organized the pictures that I want to share . . . into nine categories!

Here is the artist's statement for the piece above:

For those of you who look for subject matter on this blog beyond quilts, I will be spreading the posts out.  In fact, having "excess" artistry posts, and more from places that we have already visited will be helpful this year, as we will be spending a lot of time at home, (hopefully) overseeing the design and construction of our new house.

The quilt above was created in response to a challenge that required use of specific fabrics.

This artist did not say anything about maps in her statement, but that is what I saw (in addition to the rabbit's ears).

You might need to see the "detail" picture - which I've placed first - in order to see the other houses in this quilt.  Be sure to catch the title in the artist's statement!

This quilt reminds me of what I've been doing, designing a floor plan for our new house, although I have been doing it on the computer, rather than the sewing machine.

If you expand the view on just one of the artists' statements here, this would be the one to do it on - so interesting!

Here is another map-reminiscent quilt:

At first I didn't "get" this quilt:

Since there were over 600 quilts at the show, you just cannot read all of the artists' statements.  The title of this one caught my attention, though.

The artist says that her inspirations were "our adopted kitten's criminal behavior, my dad's extensive knowledge of South Jersey back roads, city maps, and Family Circus 'dotted line' comics."

Hey Judy . . . Yes, a big reason why I post about quilts. I want others to love them as much as I do, to realize that it's another area of art to explore, maybe to create!
