Pictorials are always my favorite category at shows, and possibly what I would most like to excel at. Of course there are many types of even pictorial quilts, and when I get there, mine will probably be more abstract. These are my favorites from the American Quilter's Society Show at Paducah, Kentucky. (I've omitted separate attribution pictures for most quilts here, because they are included in the main pictures.) Here is a closeup, to show you how the artist used fabrics to convey fish scales: I wish I could adequately portray the beauty of this succulents quilt. Each dot on the paddles in the upper right was both painted and individually quilted. The quilter who created the quilt below used seams rather than paint to differentiate between colors; she is known for quilts that use thousands of individual pieces. A close look at the second picture will give you some idea of the complexity of this work. This show was very frustrating for me, and I may not come back, as the crowds and the way that the quilts were roped off made it impossible to get a good look at a lot of the quilts. (Photography sometimes gives a better view than viewing in person!) This also explains the odd angles in some of these pictures. If you aren't a quilter, you probably wouldn't know that the "texture" in the detail photo of this tiger quilt was created primarily with thread. This is one of my favorite quilts in this group, because of its emotional impact: For two of my sisters-in-law: Finally, a stunning recreation of a historic painting, with hand-painted individual faces:

Hmmm, good question, Josue'. Most of the quilts at this show aren't for sale, but the top prize was $20,000.

I should actually have said that the quilts aren't for sale *at the show*. Many are made by professional quilters and are definitely available.

Hi Marlene! I just looked up your quilt, and I don't remember seeing it there. What a disappointment! In general I was frustrated with the "crowdedness" and how the quilts were roped off, but I should have been able to see yours, with it being on the end. Congratulations on being accepted. Was that Jinny Beyer fabric on the border?

Yes Jinny Beyer fabrics throughout the quilt. I was only there myself on Thursday. Loitering several times by my quilt. Glad you got to go! Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
