While out driving, about 30 miles from home in the Oak Ridge area, we found a mill that Cheri had wanted to see since having seen it written up in Garden and Gun magazine. Just off the road you will see this scene: We parked in the little gravel lot in front of the door. Cheri immediately went inside, while I wandered around the outside. Part of the building is stone, part is quite weathered wood, which is good for photography as weathered materials do gain some texture and character. Looking at the buildings on the lower level: As you are on the porch entering the front signage informs you this is a working mill, please be careful. The mill can be run by either electricity or water. Some of the switches caught my attention. It is interesting to me to see equipment from the past still currently being used. (We didn't take pictures of the equipment itself, but you can see it in use on the third episode of Season 1 of "A Chef's Life," which is shown on PBS Documentaries or PBS Living, streaming alone or through Amazon.) And what did we bring home from the trip? Dinner!

At some point I would like to get back when they are actually working the grain to get pictures of the machinery in action. We have been busy, have not yet made anything with the cornmeal we bought, but I think we will do that this week.

It still amazes me how green everything is here. Maybe I will get used to it after more time, but it and the Cicadas singing still surprise me.
