I was just expecting to do some textile-stash enhancement when I stepped into Bay Quilts in Richmond, CA last month, but turned to my right, and WOW! I had seen and admired Sandra Bruce's quilts in magazines before, but to be able to look at 12 of her pieces "in person"! I immediately turned around and went back to the car, to tell Mark that he should come inside to see the surprise. Here is Ms. Bruce's original quilt in this style, along with two successively-closer views, so that you can see how she created the "glint" on her eyeglasses. The statement for this piece talks a lot about her process: I of course loved this portrait of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, with its almost royal coloration: A sweet-but-dramatic portrait of her son: The last of the quilts that I have here is such a poignant one: It looks like Bay Quilts features an individual quilter's works every month, so if you live close enough, be sure to check it out! Hi Marian, I've seen several of her works at large national or regional shows in addition to magazines, but it looks like she keeps her works, so museums will have to wait!
