A few days ago I mentioned that Mark and I had happened upon Lewisville, Arkansas near sundown, as we were on our way to northeast Texas in December. I had never seen a town that was simultaneously both ghost town and home to several hundred residents. The ghost town part was clear; we took numerous interior pictures of two buildings like this on "Main" Street. My recollection is that the picture above was the inside of this building: I'm an architecture junkie, and I really wish I had a clue what the inspirations for this building were! Crossing the street, I waited for a car driven by a woman who was clearly on her way home from a white-collar job. It was difficult to tell if this building's life was trending up or down. Here are some of the businesses that were still in operation: Mark doesn't remember if Merle's House of Fashion was still in business. Ghost signs for business that didn't seem to be going concerns: and some signs for business that were still kicking: This building held what looked to be the most active business on this side of the highway: (The "person" in the rocker is a skeleton dressed in Mrs. Claus finery.) What they did in this building was a little difficult to discern. From one door: and from the door beside it: I'm pretty sure this was in the same building: Clearly the locals enjoy deer meat. (This approach to hunting can be found close to us in North Carolina, too.) After my original post here, I also ran across the Facebook site for Possum Bob's Bait Shop: While you might think that Bob is on the lookout for four-legged meals, the shop is clearly fishing for anglers.

Thank you. I enjoyed seeing this "ghost" town. The old brick and painted signs are picturesque.
