KNOXVILLE WAS A SURPRISE, AND MOSTLY IN A GOOD WAY!     (Cheri)

So Mark told you about our AirBnB experience.  Fun!  (Not.)

The bigger surprise than the torrential rain and thunder, which we've experienced pretty regularly here in Winston-Salem, was how delightful downtown Knoxville is.

There was nothing about Knoxville in the guidebook that I quickly checke, and even people who know more about Tennessee seem to be surprised when they blog about Knoxville.  Apparently Nashville and Memphis are cool, and maybe Knoxville isn't?

We will definitely be coming back to spend time just walking around the downtown area.  Lots of great-looking food experiences, an amazing vintage theater, parks, etc.  We saw more of it than we had expected because we stayed there after leaving the little AirBnB bungalow.

No ice cream to report on, but we did get to Insomnia Cookies!  (First reported on here.)  It is a truly good thing that they don't have any outposts near here.

A couple of my pix from Architectural Antics:

We need a bathroom clock, but this won't be it:

Just a couple of pictures of quilts from the quilt show follow.

I was able to talk with the man who made this quilt.  I believe he said it took him more than 800 hours.  The second picture will show you why.

This one was also sewn by a "man":

WOW, Cheri! Your journey was worth all the raindrops!
I'm glad we didn't miss seeing these quilts, made with such care and hope.
Knoxville does look friendly and familiar; I know three very separate client families planning to move to Tennessee, and one of them is aoready on the way!
These quilts are memorable, Cheri...Thank you!

Hey Laurie! Yes, and one of our local competitors in the Monterey told us that he was moving to Tennessee. You definitely get more land for your money in Knoxville.

Thank you for sharing. I liked the first quilt better after reading the explanation.

Knoxville seems like a nice place that has not forgotten its past.
