It was raining, and fairly cold outside, but not to worry. We parked just behind this truck and went inside. Just inside the front door, you see this attached to the floor: Welcome to the Jefferson General Store in Jefferson, Texas. (If you are from the North Carolina Piedmont, think Mast General Store, but possibly more old-school.) I was inside for about an hour with my friend Ross, who lives nearby in Linden. We wandered throughout the store, a combination of history and commerce. I believe I shot about 65 photographs while inside. I had never seen a John Deere sign in anything other than their current signature green color. Seeing one old enough to be in a different color was interesting. This one I saw and thought of Cheri, she has experimented with doing some dying of fabrics. The look on the face at the top of the sign was about how I felt: warm and happy with lots of subjects to photograph: You are probably wondering how Ross could possibly stand to stick around while I was taking all this time photographing these wonderful things. Not to worry, Ross is a somewhat-retired professional photographer. I only wish I had his eye and ability. His photographs are exquisite. He also has a collection of cameras and photos on Etsy. You can see them at VintageTrunkandArt on Etsy. The General store does have very good ice cream, Cheri choose the Oatmeal Cookie Cream, I had the triple chocolate, definitely worth the stop even if you just get a scoop. After spending the morning wandering Jefferson we went to Ross and Judy’s house in Linden and began catching up, and had a wonderful meal together. Cheri started a 1,000 piece puzzle on their dining room table which we will probably not finish today. So they will have a reminder we were here to remember us by.

Your photos light up the room, Mark! No wonder you were glowing side this old-style market in the best Texas town I've seen, other than Austin, with music, food, and hill country. That bright blue truck and your double-chocolate ice custard, plus Friends!

Who could imagine Ross and I would make a guest appearance in the Young-Love blog! It was wonderful spending time with our long-time friends again. We like showing people around the area when they visit. The Jefferson General Store is always a good place to start!
