I drove a little ways on Friday, to Kernersville, N.C. I'd seen this building before - even mentioned it in a blog post in 2022 - but didn't know what it was being used for. I was there to sign escrow papers to sell the home we lived when we moved to North Carolina (the "temporary house"), at law firm called "Atlas Orange." That absolutely intrigued me, so I asked the paralegal why that name. Well, she said, the attorney's favorite book - maybe I'd heard of it - is Atlas Shrugged. Yesss, the favorite of one of my brothers-in-law, at least when we were in our teens. So the attorney had named his firm "Atlas Law." Then a firm in some other state had sent a cease-and-desist letter, saying they were "Atlas Law." (Okaaay.) As a result, the attorney had added the color that makes him feel most empowered, "Orange," to his firm name. He has got to be one interesting attorney. Here's a quick shot of a ghost sign on a building across the street: After signatures were complete, I remembered that one of my friends sells wearable art at a store basically around the corner, so I decided to stop and see the store, Jane, Made and Found. What a fantastic place! It's a combination store (Jane) and meeting place (The Social Hall). I almost bought a bracelet of matte-navy beads, until I remembered that I wear wrist braces for my arthritis, 24/7, but had a great time perusing clothing and record albums: decorative items: and books: I didn't buy this book: because I already own - and highly recommend - it, but I did buy In the Mood for Colour: Perfect Palettes for Creative Interiors, by Hans Blomquist. I loved this concept: The cards on the package give hints about the books inside, without identifying them. Finally, a couple of pictures of "The Social Hall," at which my friend also teaches watercolor classes: On the way home, I stopped to pick up a shoe that I'd had repaired.
When I'd dropped the shoe off, the shop owner asked me what I was cooking that weekend. At the time, I assumed it was because it was the Friday before Easter.. Nope. He asked again this time. "Well, probably leftovers." "My FAVORITE!" "Really? Why?" "They're free!" Our conversation meandered, just a bit, to barbecue, and he said that I should absolutely try Black Powder Smokehouse, in Jamestown, N.C. (about 35 miles from here.) "You'll feel like you walked on water and met Jesus!" he said. I may need to find some more shoes that need repairing, just to experience more of his enthusiasm, and get more restaurant recommendations.

That's what I love about blogging, Judy; when I happen upon a bunch of fun, I get to share it! Sometimes I even discover more when I'm researching what I've just done.
