The American Quilt Society shows attract the highest-quality quilt artists from the United States and around the world.

This quilt, "My Lucky Stars," by Jill, Linda, and & Richard McKinney, won third place in the Group Quilts category.  The color selections made it a standout for me.

I personally like working with what I call "parrot colors," and here is another in that category:

This quilt isn't actually a "traditional" quilt:

It's antecedents were, though.  Consider the similarities between it and a vintage Amish quilt:

In this show the miniature quilts were mounted behind glass, so I couldn't get full pictures.  To get an idea of the workmanship, consider that each pinwheel block in this portion of a quilt was about 1.5" square.

Each of the strips in this quilt detail was probably 1/8" wide,

and here is the entire quilt:

(And I just now realized that the same woman made both of those quilts!)

Finally, here is a detail of one that I thought should have won a major prize:

Here are another detail, the entire quilt, and the artist's attribution:

How could that not win a prize??  (Again, my apologies for the skewed photos, caused by the way the quilts were hung, which prevented squared-off shots.)

Truly amazing! Yes I don't know why that last quilt didn't win either!! 🤷‍♀️ And I totally love those rich, saturated colors. They really ring my bell! Thanks for the peek into Paducah!

Wouldn't it be fun to know the lady who made it? She could be our buddy!

Thank you for these wonderful quilts! I had to look at them twice!

I would love to see more! I am going to forward your blog to Larry's sister who used to make quilts.

The detail and number of ladies on that last quilt is nothing short of amazing! Love and appreciate the design and work involved, even if the judges didn’t!

I'm so glad you liked it, Ingrid! The National Quilt Museum is in the same town where the show was held, so I'll be posting about that soon.
