ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA, #3     (Cheri)

I got so many pretty pictures of Elkin that I had to put up a third post.

On HGTV's Home Town Takeover, Ben and Erin Napier talked about the value of murals in developing a town's pride, and built a structure to locate a new farmers' market.  I don't know if Elkin was ahead of the curve or jumped in shortly after, but they are clearly in agreement.

I had to actually hang my phone over the top of a seven-foot fence to get this shot:

Here are a couple more of a full-wall mural, related to a historical sign that Mark posted:

A couple of old offices that I liked.  I would particularly have liked to have practiced in this attorney's building.

Finally, this made laugh.  Clearly there is some dispute about the way public finances are being managed in the area.  I didn't bother to figure it out, but admired someone's skill at highlighting the issue!

I enjoyed the billboards and wall paintings. The historical ones are excellent.

I see the fence that you took the photo over. To tall for me!

Yes, Marian, Mark was afraid I would drop my phone . . . about 20 feet down into a fenced plaza.

On that last pic (apples to apples), is this related to a NC state audit or some political shenanigans? Re: the office buildings you like . . . more square brick buildings. Is there a statewide APB out yet for you two . . . lurking around properties and buildings, hanging over fences?

Donna, dunno about why the call for an audit. I did feel a little conspicuous getting pictures of everything, but it felt pretty closed down in town. I think maybe it's a typical tourist area - busy on the weekends, partially closed on Monday and Tuesday.
