ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA, #1    (Cheri)

Mark and I headed out to Elkin for a couple of days, to see whether it might be somewhere we would like to live.

It might be too small for day-to-day living, but it is certainly is photogenic; Mark and I are going to be posting two or three times with our pictures from this town an hour or so from the Blue Ridge Mountains, with a great vibe!

We ate at The Angry Troll Monday night.  Great pizza, actually the best we've had  in North Carolina.  (And we think we spotted the server that the brew pub was named after!)

The whole town is just full of murals, but I'm going to wait and see which ones Mark got pictures of, and may come back to do another post of those he skipped.

Today's post is about the offices and shops, which were pretty cute.  I thought the "bite" out of this sign was a smart idea, but was pretty sure the dentist could have had some teeth marks cut, too.

This place sold and did everything:

Newer post offices aren't generally architecturally notable, but I'm a sucker for brick, and the trees in front are beautiful.  (Trees are blooming everywhere right now.)

This sign looked promising:

Unfortunately . . .

The name of this place of business was grand.

Achievement actually pretty easy . . .

Coming down a side street, I saw this sign.

If you were to stand there for an afternoon, I wonder how many people  like me you would see moving their heads up and down, up and down, looking for another story?

These people have attitude!

And I like the approach that these places had:

I really hate to waste things!

Another day, more pics of Elkin to come . . . .

Ha! This was laugh out loud funny! So glad you met the Angry Troll. Funny you mentioned architecture of that post office building because it pretty much looked like a brick box to me. Enjoyed your post and look forward to the rest of the photos.

Hey Donna! Yeah, I wanted to say *why* we were sure we had met the pub's namesake, but it's a small town and if I had described her, people would have *known* who I was talking about. <G>

I laughed at your comment about looking for a second story.

I think those pink blossoms might be dogwood. Very pretty.

Thank you for sharing. Marian
