BETHANIA     (Mark)

Midway between Pfafftown, where we live, and Rural Hall, lies the tiny town of Bethania.  If you are looking at this sign you are at the juncture of the three roads which made this little town important in the history of the State.

Notice when the colony was founded.  Very interesting form of government.

It is always interesting to me how much history can be crammed into a little spot of land, usually attributed to a ford across a river or early road systems . . .

. . . however Bethania was important 90 years before this road was built in the Revolutionary War:

and twenty years after the road was built during the Civil War:

All of this is within an area you can walk around in 10 minutes!

While wandering a few other things caught my eye, including the old mill building which has been converted to offices and shops.

This flower was posing in the shadow of the old mill.

Some local color and texture caught my eye as well.

After spending a little time wandering around Bethania we spent some time driving the country roads nearby, but I will cover that in a future post.

Mark, you make it possible to imagine 2,000 soldiers under General Cornwalls taking up all the space in Bethania, only to be followed by waves of Revolutionary War soldiers and battles.
I'm so glad the extraordinary Tiger Lilies dot the landscape now!
Thank you, for a respite along with you!

Thank you, Mark. The history is so interesting! The people who lived there saw so much happening in their area.

I look forward to your next blog.
