We are on a quick three-state trip. Generally I end a post with the ice cream parlor we found, but today we are beginning with one. Riverbend Creamery is a wonderful farm and ice cream parlor in Lincolnton, NC. We highly recommend it if you are in the area. After getting properly fortified with ice cream we continued on towards the Asheville area; neither of us can remember which town we saw this mural in. Vintage murals for Coke and Pepsi - invented in Atlanta and North Carolina, respectively - abound in the State. I love the wall murals, both ghost murals, fading away on the brick, and restored. We stopped in Ellensboro and found a few photographs near the train station. When you say a train has run out of track, I think they had this car in mind: In other post, I have several other logos and train cars from this line. This was on the door of the old station. Cheri took these photo while I was circling the railroad depot: This rooster was spotted just down the road from the train station: When my mother was alive, I would text her pictures like this from along the road; she hated chickens and roosters. She had been attacked by an angry chicken when young, and hated them ever after. It has been 11 months since Hurricane Helene. Taking this picture, I was facing what used to be a beautifully-landscaped pedestrian bridge at Lake Lure, soon to be totally removed. Below is a "before" picture. Image Credit: Our State Magazine The destruction wrought is impossible to describe. The quilt show Cheri posted about has an excellent description of the quilts dealing with the aftermath. Down in the valley looking back toward the Eastern Continental Divide, 2,880 feet in elevation: The quilt show was in the town of Fletcher, near Asheville, NC.: If you would like to receive email messages when we upload new posts to this blog, email us at [email protected].
