I had the chance to spend most of the afternoon taking a walk around a wonderful little town in Georgia. You forget the huge city of Atlanta surrounds you when you are in Norcross. (We were astounded to learn that the Atlanta Metropolitan Area is more than three times the size of the San Jose Metropolitan Area.) The park at the west end of the city has been built where the old baseball diamond was located, and the history of baseball in Norcross is amazing. Between 1910 and the late 1950’s, Norcross produced more professional baseball players than any other town in the US. As I was walking just south of the historic downtown area, on Peachtree Street, I happened along a wonderful lady tending to her yard. The house was built in 1890. She moved to the house in the 1980’s and intends to be at this house until she is "buried under it." She had a number of pets: Some had bigger smiles than others. And others just seemed to be laughing about life, or maybe a private joke. Even the pots had a place to sit and rest. I was happy she was such a good host to a wandering guy with a camera. She told me she would not want to live anywhere else in the world; she was home. Wandering along the back alley to the main street you can see some character in the architecture. Also some of the local color. I stopped on the corner and ended up talking at length with a local photographer. He came over to say hello after he saw me taking photos using an actual camera, not a phone. He could understand when I told him something about holding and using a camera appealed to me more than the phone. As he travels to California regularly I gave him some suggestions about areas he should take his camera to in the Monterey area. And you might enjoy some of the local character, or characters, if you mosey and take time to say hello to everyone.
